Using your phone abroad
When traveling abroad, the number you are calling should be prefixed with "+" or "00" followed by the country code and the number you are trying to call.
Accidental roaming can happen when you're in an area close to a national border and your phone picks up the network across the border. If this happens, you may be charged as though you were roaming in the country across the border. You can prevent this by choosing “manual” – rather than “automatic” – network selection in your phone’s settings. The, manually choose the HMD Mobile network. This way, if you lose connection to the HMD Mobile network, your phone won't try to connect you to a different one.
You can subscribe to roaming data plans from HMD Mobile account. If you are roaming in the EU, you can call and send texts to the country you are in and back to the UK without the need for an additional roaming plan, unless advertised otherwise.
Your plan will keep renewing without interruption while roaming as long as your payment method is updated in HMD Mobile Account.
Before you travel, you'll need to make sure you know your voicemail PIN. Simply dial “1233” to listen to your messages or change your voicemail settings at any time, or by dialling +447973 101 233 while abroad. Depending on which country you're in, you'll either go straight to your messages or you'll go to your voicemail greeting. If it's your voicemail greeting, press * and enter your PIN.
It costs the same to listen to a voicemail as it does to make a call to the UK. There's no charge for receiving a message if you don't listen to it.
When you’re roaming, you can buy up to 2 add-ons at once. You will start using your first purchased add-on, and the next add-on will be available as soon as first one expires or is used up. The validity period of the second add-on will start from the day you start using it and in accordance with its advertised validity period.
Before leaving country, make sure that your roaming is enabled for your account. You can verify this by logging in to HMD Mobile account. If you don’t see any network coverage on your phone, please re-start it or select the local available networks manually from the networks section menu in your device’s settings.
Make sure you have purchased a roaming add-on that is valid for that country before leaving UK. Otherwise, you can still log in to HMD Mobile ccount from your device or a computer using a local internet connection and purchase the required add-on. Add-ons are usually ready to be used immediately after purchase. If you are unable to use your add-on after purchase, try re-starting your phone.
Make sure that your payment details are up to date in HMD Mobile account before leaving your country. If your Bank card does not have sufficient balance or if your Bank card is replaced, you need to update the payment details otherwise we cannot renew your plans and you won’t not be able to buy any add-ons while roaming.
If you have purchased a prepaid 90-day plan for use in the UK, we cannot pause the plan if you start travelling.
